FAQ: Thermostat Settings for Vacation Time

When you leave your home for a few days or even for a few months, don’t forget to adjust your air conditioner’s thermostat settings. The right settings will help keep the humidity and the electricity usage under control. You will save money on the electric bill, while still preventing mold and mildew from forming.

If you have a programmable thermostat, set your thermostat to run at 72 degrees just before sunrise. For the rest of the day you can keep your air conditioner turned off or set it to a very high temperature like 90 degrees.

Even though a programmable thermostat can run your AC unit more efficiently; setting your non-programmable thermostat to 80 degrees while you are away will provide you with good balance. For condos and apartments that do not have walls to the outside or are not on the top floor, a temperature setting of 77 degrees is more appropriate.
If you are considering upgrading to a programmable thermostat, please give us a call. We will be glad to assist you. Also you might be interested in checking out the brand new Lennox iComfort Wifi Thermostat.
